Was mich erstaunt?

Dear international readers,
the picture says it all though we have a different type of crutches in Germany. I had a small bike accident and broke my right leg. After one week in hospital I'm back home now and will start to recover. Sewing will be difficult in the next six to eight weeks, so the postings might be quite rare. But I'll try to write every now and then especially because it's a good way to spend the time.

Me Made on Trend: Patterned Jeans

Just a quick post to show an outfit that I wore last week. The jeans are me made and I'm really happy about the fit. I used my modified Burda pattern that I also used for the corduroy pants. The fabric for these jeans I got from Buttinette, but it seems to be sold out right now. It has some amount of stretch and is a really nice material for skinny jeans. From a distance they look like normal black jeans, but in the closeup you can see the pattern. This type of jeans is quite on trend right now and Erica B made a similar pair as well. She also links to some of these jeans that you can get in the store.
I pair them with an old sweater that I knitted, when I was about thirteen. It used to be quite roomy, but now it's a normal size. It's a kind of piece that will stick with you, however your body changes.

The fit is great in the back as well! I also added pockets, but they don't really show due to the pattern. But they are an intersting feature.

A good luck blouse for a good day

Today I had a talk about my work with my colleague and my boss, so I chose to wear my good luck blouse that I also wore on the day of my job interview. It is hard to see but the blouse is printed with little scissors and tape measure, so it's perfect for a seamstress like me. Fun fact: My colleague told me that she mentioned how cool that blouse was that I wore during the interview to my boss and he didn't note what I wore at all.
Anyway, I just had to wear the trousers that I finsihed yesterday and am really happy with the look of them. I need to add a small seam on the fly front and maybe stiffen the waistband with some stitches, but the fit is really good - even in the croth area. The length is perfect to wear with my boots and can also be worn with flat shoes, I might need to turn up the hem then.
The sweater was a find from Oxfam and the blouse was bought at the fleamarket Trabrennbahn in Mönchengladbach. Oh, and the red chair? That is a family heritage piece which used to belong to my mother when she was my age and lived in Hamburg as well. Fun coincidence.

My Undine Adams Look

While the third part of "The Adlon" was running, I sat down in fornt of my laptop (I don't have a TV) and finished the last seams on my new favourite pair of trousers. The sewing was a breeze, because I already made the pattern a couple of times and even the zipper could't freak me out anymore. Though I tried to do a blind hem with my machine and somehow I must have folded the fabric in a wrong way, because the seam wasn't invisible. So, in th end I did the hem by hand to add come couture details to the trousers. The waitsband was also done with slip stitches. The lightning in my room isn't very good for pictures after sunset, but I got an idea from Sinje and might be able to light up the living room with some equipment from the hardware store soon.

The outfit in the style of Undine Adams consist of my new handmade trousers. I wish I had a better picture of the soft velvet and the berry colour is also much nicer in real life. The top and jacket were both aquired in second-hand shops. The top is from a charity shop in London and the jacket was a score from Stilbruch in Hamburg. I got the hat at Oxfam in Berlin and the shoes were bought 2008 in the USA.

Fabrics for my home

Actually I planned to start a "Not buy anything new" year in 2013 again. But then I couldn't! I still need to make curtains for my kitchen an living room, I need cushions and then we had these amazing fabrics on sale... Who can resist a bargain? I can't, so I allowed myself to make some purchases in January and try to not buy anything new starting in February.
I didn't receive the fabrics yet, but I've seen them and know that they are amazing in real life. All fabrics are bought from stoffe.de and yes, I work there, but anyway I would really like the quality of the products.
The World Map fabric was the most expensive one and the two colourful cotton fabrics with flowers were the cheapest. For my curtains I chose Relib Abstract, which is 280 cm wide, so I only needed to purchase 3 m for the windows.

Me-made? Na klar, ist doch Mittwoch!

Heute bin ich mal wieder beim Me Made Mittwoch dabei.

Almost finished!

Guess what I'm currently working on! Small hint it has a zipper and about 15 pattern pieces. Oh, and I already made it three times, but only one of them fits me right now. So that's why I made this fourth version in a cotton velvet which has a very nice berry colour. The project is nearly finished and just needs some handstiches which I plan to make tomorrow while watching the third and last part of "The Adlon" on ZDF. I'll do my best to style it in Undine Adams style then.

Attacke!

2012 - A Year In Review

Okay, so I'm probably the latest jumping on the bandwagon, but I've seen and read so many interesting recaps of 2012 that I felt the urge to add my little story of 2012. Especially because it has been such a eventful year and lots of changes occured. So, let's start shall we?
January
The year started with a break. It was necessary because I wrote my final exams and since I needed to pass all of them to be able to progress and start my internship this was a tough time and I didn't get around to sew anything. My life was pretty broing that month, all I did was get up, study, eat, study, go shopping for groceries and study some more. Although I also rewarded myself from time to time with little treats like a short thrift store tour or a DVD evening with friends. In the end it all worked out perfectly.

February

The first two weeks were still spent studying, but then I gave myself the biggest treat of the year. I travelled to Paris and had some amazing days with my new found friend Claire, who is an amazing Burlesque performer. She introduced me to the Parisian way of living and made me feel very comfortable in this romantic city.

March
In March I started my internship, which would qualify me for the bachelor thesis. I moved to Hamburg, found a affordable room in the house of a small family and began working nine to five. I had lots to do, getting to know the city, find friends and write a report for the university, but it was great living closeby to family and old friends again. I was actually so busy with all the new things, that I didn't find the time to blog about it or take pictures.

April
In April I was very productive sewing wise and made a dress for an upcoming wedding, a simple shirt and a bag, which I use fairly often.

May

May marked the Summer Sewing Swap. I swapped with Inge from Inge Maakt and received an amazing parcel. The fabric she sent me is still not cut, because I need to find the right pattern for it, but it doubled as a table cloth for my New Years dinner and fit perfectly to my menu. It was also the month when I experienced with layout and started to try to put more of an effort on taking pictures of my sewing. Small steps sure, but I tried.

June
In June I was pretty busy writing my thesis, so no sewing at all. Instead I used the spare minutes to drive to the seaside and enjoy the beautiful sunny days that we were having. How I love the beautiful coast we have!

July

I finally handed in my thesis, spent some time with friends in good old Mönchengladbach and Düsseldorf, then had the final exam and finally I could call myself a "Bachelor of Science in Textile and Clothing Management". Wow, that feels so good to say! Right after coming back, I had major sewing rush, where I used up 1 spool of Gütermann thread in one weekend!

August
In August I signed the lease contract of my own two room apartment. It was a case of good luck to find something affordable in the area that I was interested in and I'm still so happy to be in the place where I am right now. My cute little garden will be so pretty next summer and I'm super excited to try myself at growing some veggies. Any suggestions for easy to care fruit or vegetables? I also visited some great concerts in the Stadtpark and enjoyed time with friends and family.

September
My parents and I were busy renovating the flat, had many trips to the surrounding hardware and furniture stores and with the help of my brother and his girlfriend I managed to paint the apartment in one day. I was still living in the room with the family and only in the middle of the month started to sleep at my own place.

Oktober
More trips to furniture stores, lots of thoughts about the perfect furniture. In the end of the month I had the most important things in the flat. Enjoying time with friends as well as enjoying some sewing time.

November
Two important and very inspiring events in one month. Firstly the Blogst confernce in Hamburg and then the Blogger meet-up in Berlin. Both such fun events, where I met lots of interesting women from all over Germany.
December
Having friends over is the best things ever! I didn't only have one weekend with overnight guests, no I had three ( though one of them was on New Years Eve so it`s practically in January 2013) weekends filled with fun and laughter. I haven't had a place where people could stay over for more than four years, so I'm absolutely loving to have guests and show them my surroundings and the beautiful city of Hamburg.

So this was 2012. Quite an exhausting year, but with lots of good memories and amazing connections all over the world. I hope that 2013 can keep up, but I'm sure it will. What I definitely want to improve in 2013? Maybe you guessed it, I should really take more pictures and bring my camera to more places. Maybe I'll be able to add pictures in next years review then.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone!

I had a fantastic time celebrating the beginning of 2013 with some old and new friends. After a yummy Indian style dinner which I prepared and some self-made Caipirinhas we went into town and had a fantastic look at the fireworks around the Alster. Then we continued the night in the Molotow club at Hamburgs Reeperbahn. The first morning of 2013 then started with a relaxed breakfast, before my friends went home and I started to clean the apartment.

I have enjoyed reading all your annual reviews and think about making one myself, but not tonight. Tonight I feel so inspired by all your projects, that I need to make something cute myself. So, I'm off to the sewing machine! I have no plan yet on what I want to make, I'll just have a look at the stash and see what inspires me.
